Full Library Hours
This guide will help you learn how to easily access library resources using your smartphone or other mobile device. Even though there is an Ebling Library mobile site, you may need to set up an account for some mobile apps on a computer prior to launching the app.
Many library resources have a mobile web version, while others have a stand-alone app that may be downloaded from the iTunes store, Android Marketplace or the Blackberry App World.
Typically, if you have a larger tablet such as an iPad you will most likely not need to use the mobile sites.
Not all journals subscribed to by UW Madison libraries are optimized for viewing on mobile devices. There are a few vendors that do provide mobile content. Journals from Science Direct and Highwire Press are two that are optimized for mobile viewing.
If you access a journal from HighWire Press on your mobile device, it will automatically redirect to a mobile-optimized format.
Science Direct has apps available for iOS, Android and Blackberry devices. All journal titles that are available through the library system can be viewed fulltext on your mobile device. You will need to register for an account on a library computer first. Then download ScienceDirect from the appropriate app store. Login using the username and password you set up.
If you prefer, you may set up RSS feeds to access the tables of contents of those journals you wish to stay on top of and access the feeds on your mobile device rather than viewing an entire journal. RSS feeds to any journal found on the Ebling Library website can be subscribed to via RSS. Ask your librarian for help setting this up.
