Citation Managers: Adding References

Adding References From PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Google

There are numerous ways to add references and attachments. The easiest way to import references into Mendeley from a database is to use the Web Importer to import references into your Mendeley web account.  You can then sync with your desktop client.

Using the Web Importer to import from PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL Plus, Google Scholar and others

  • Conduct a search
  • Click on the Import to Mendeley button on the browser's favorites or bookmarks toolbar
  • From the popup window, select the references you want to import into your library

Adding References via Files or PDFs

Adding references directly to Mendeley desktop:

  • Manually -- File-> Add Entry Manually->Select Reference Type, then complete the fields
  • Add files in .ris or .bib formats -- Click Add Files, browse to file and open
  • Drag and drop PDFs onto the documents pane
  • Add documents to the Watched Folder -- File-> Watched folder, select a folder on your computer to which you save PDFs, All PDFS saved to that folder will be automatically imported into Mendeley
  • Import your EndNote library
